Divorce in NYS was for adultery only. A church annulment would also require
a civil annulment or divorce. In some states divorce records are open. I am
told in NYS they are not open, but I have located a NYS divorce by just
looking like I knew where I was going and browsing until I found the divorce
book in a cupboard whose door was fortunately open a bit. I suspect it may
also depend on the opinions of the town or county clerk who has the records.
