I checked out the site just to see how the PUTMANs and PUTNAMs ended up
on the same page. It is far too vast for me to appease my mild
curiosity, but it sure is a place for anyone with those roots!!
I always perk up at the mention of PUTNAM/PUTMAN because the mother of
an old friend was a 'Putt', and told stories of her family going west
(to Streeter, ND)in a covered wagon in the early 20th century, then
returning to NY during the dustbowl years. They were always *very*
sensitive about the difference between PUTNAM and PUTMAN.
Then this months Schenectady County Historical Society newsletter had
an essay by the Pres., Bob Sager, about his PUTMAN cousins, and mentioned
the confusion between the Dutch PUTMANs and English PUTNAMs. Putnam
Road, in Rotterdam, NY was named originally Putman Rd..
And I though *I* had trouble sorting out my BAKERs. <g>
happy hunting,
jim
