My "orphan" is named Alfred Moore b. 5/1820 in IN. He was a Quaker and was
listed in Quaker records in Aug., 1837 as a minor moving from Blue River MM
in Washington Co, IN to White Lick MM in Morgan Co., IN. In Oct of 1837 he
moved back to the Blue River MM. In June of 1839 he was disowned for
neglected attendance.

In Oct 1842 he married Martha Kerr? in Morgan Co., but their first child
Mary, was born in 1843 in Mooresville, Brown Township, IN. (The founder of
Mooresville, Samuel Moore, who was there at the time, had no living
offspring. Could Alfred have been related to him in some way?) Other
children were Sarah in 1845, Laura S. in 1847, Robert in 1848 and Margaret
in 1850.

Alfred is listed in the Mooresville, IN, census in 1850 as having no
occupation (with five children!!) and being worth $200. He appears again
in the 1900 census as a widower living with his daughter, Mary, in Newberg,
Yamhill Co., OR, at age 80.

I can't seem to learn anything more about him through the Quaker records,
although there are lots of Moores there.
