Good evening, David. (Hope you don't mind teaching again!)
Okay - let me ask you this question: I have a ggggrandfather (Sidney E.
Page) that was born abt 1826ish around Rupert, Vermont and married 1850
in Pawlet, Vermont. He married Lisette BAGLEY there. I believe she was
probably born in Pawlet, although I have not verified this. Immediately
after their marriage in 1850, I find them in the 1850 census in
Warrenton, Fauquier County, VA.
I'm not sure if it is unusual, or how unusual it might be, for what I
had believed to be a "pure New England family for generations" to
suddenly end up in Virginia.
Sidney E. and his wife, Lisette (Bagley) Page, were of course, driven
out of Virginia during the war...leaving 1864 for New York. After that,
they didn't settle for long. I find them in Broome County, NY; Rockford,
Illinois; several locations in Missouri; and by 1880 in Cerro Gordo
County, Iowa. By the fall of 1881, Lisette Page is "missing" from
Sidney's family.
Will gladly welcome all comments regarding how usual or unusual it is
for what appears to be a totally New England family for generations, to
end up suddenly in Virginia...
