Jim:
Just to help people w/ their research, there was No Nassau County or Bronx
County in 1855. Nassau was part of Queens until 1899 and all federal
census [+ state] for what is now Nassau are under Queens. The 1900 Federal
is the first Nassau census, labeled as such. All of Bronx was Westchester,
until NYC began annexing parts in the 1870's. They were finished annexing
by 1895. So, Bronx can be tricky in the 1870's-1880's and 1890's. Was it
New York County or Westchester County? The Borough of the Bronx was New
York County [but not Borough of Manhattan] on Federal 1900 and 1910. The
county was created [newest in NYS] in 1914. The NYS 1915 and Federal 1920
would list Bronx County separately for the first time.
