No civil marriage records were required in NY State (and none were filed)
prior to 1880 except for a brief period (about) 1847-51 . NY City (and
perhaps a few other cities) had provision for recording marriages
somewhat earlier but this was optional. So unless you're talking about
a city you're probably out-of-luck. In NY City, marriage _licenses_
were required starting about 1908 but I don't know what's on them.
