I feel that there is a strong possibility that Margaret MOORE is related
to an Enoch MOORE who made a land claim in Saltfleet Township, Wentworth
County, ON and then went back to the U.S. in the early 1800's and was never
heard from again. His son Charles MOORE then petitioned for and received a
grant of his fathers unclaimed land for himself and his sister Mary
(MOORE) LEE.
I have also been looking for occurrences of the Christian name Maloa as
it is very unusual. My mother was told that the name was Irish and it
was pronounced "Malloy". I have checked for years to try to find out
about this name but to no avail. I now believe it is a misspelling of
the Gaelic "Maol" for Malvina. Maloa DICKHOUT had Malva on her tombstone.
I have found 2 other occurrences of the name Maloa and both have been
connected with the surname WILSON/WILLSON so I believe my Margaret MOORE may
have had a WILSON/WILLSON ancestor or have had close connections to that
family.
As far as I have been able to ascertain Enoch MOORE may have had
children: Charles, Mary m. a LEE; Jeanette m Joseph JONES; Selvanny m
W.H. Jones, Eliza m. Daniel Ritenburg and John V. MOORE who m. Elizabeth
NUGENT. These were the next generation of MOORES who appear in the
Saltfleet, Wentworth Co. records and in the location of Enoch MOORE's
unclaimed land and may have been related. The only two proven children
are Charles and Mary.
This is all the information I have to go on and I have no idea if I am
even on the right track.
One other possible clue I am following is that Margaret MOORE's
sister-in-law Elizabeth DICKHOUT married a John MORE/MOORE b. c.1801 and
who was born in Delhi, Delaware Co., New York. He may be a relation to
Margaret or a red herring that has been sent to confuse me.
If anyone can give me any clues as to the origins of this family I would
be eternally grateful.
