"they came across a framed sampler, barely decipherable. With some study we
did find the name Christiana GRISWOLD in the sampler, a young lady who was bor
n in Windsor in 1784. She must have created the small piece of needlework in
the 1790's at an age when young ladies were expected to perfect their skills
with a sewing needle. Christiana went on to marry Richard NILES of Windsor
and have six children, one of whom is Maria H. (Niles) MOORE. Maria married
the Rev. Clark R. MOORE, and they moved to Portland, ME, in 1855. From the
newly acquired Kendrick Collection we found the DIARY of Mrs. Moore recently.
In it she relates the life of a minister's wife with child care and visits
with friends, a Valentine's Day wedding and barn fire seen on the way home."
