During my spring holiday in Scotland, this year, I cam across Reverend Alexander MacDonald's genealogical tables of the MacDonalds and MacDonells of the Great Glen. I have a handwritten family tree by Rev. MacDonald of Baraba MacRae marrying Farquhar MacDonell (not the one I'm looking for) and having a son, John Vincent MacDonell, who became a reverend. (The family chart has him as V.J. and not J.V.) Barbara was the daughter of Duncan MacRae and Isabelle MacKenzie. They had a son, Duncan, who drowned in Loch Duich. Juanita Roger at canadian_mac(at)yahoo(dot)com is trying to find out more about her ancestry. She cites that her great-grandfather Farquhar MacDonell married Barbara MacRae of Dornie, Kintail, and that they arrived in Nova Scotia in 1819-1820; had eight children: Isabel (after her mother), Alexander, John Vincent (Priest at St. Andrew, Antigonish County), Duncan (named after her brother), Margaret, Janet and Cathrine. Her grandfather, John MacDonnell, married Cathrine or "Katie", who had a sister named "Bell" or "Isabell" and a brother, Sam. John married three times, first to Cathrine on October 20, 1900. She is hitting a brick wall on who John's father was (not necessarily Farquhar); however, Donald MacDonnell (at: macdonnel01(at)yahoo(dot)com) has provided some information... He says tha the missing child of Farquhar MacDonell (married to Barbara) was John (Ian), born in 1824 and married Anne "Nancy" MacMaster (1835-1904), the daughter of Donald MacMaster and Mary MacDonald of the "Ridges" from Queensville. He has an 1891 Census listing: John MacDonell, 67 Ann or Anne, 57 Farquhar, 28 (grandson of Farquhar and Barbara) Mary, 26 Catherine "Katie", 24 Barbara F., 22 Donald "Danny", 20, who is his grandfather, Duncan, 17 Isabel "Belle", 15 Alexander, 13, and Sam Angus, 11. Katie marreid John MacDonell "The Hawk" and had two children, Freddie and Angus Joe. I hope that this helps.
