Many other obituaries may be indexed in the correct year, but with edited month and/or day. In cases where I have the month and year, I will enter the last day of the month, and where there is only the year, I will enter December 31, in order to have the date accepted ( A comment will be added to note this action.) This is due to the requirement of the program for complete dates for indexing; that is, month, day, year. When this information is not available, the date on which the obit is imported is used by default. I have investigated overriding this feature, but I cannot do this without accessing the original program code, which I am reluctant to do.
I have chosen the year 1749 for those obits lacking a year of death, as the likelihood of having any "real" obits for this year are remote, and all the orphan obits will be in one place. I have today--December 31, 2005--finished transferring any obits lacking the year from recent pages to 1749 pages.
