Hello Dave,
My how time flies. I had hoped to respond to your message on my guestbook before now, but it took me a while to dig out the papers I needed before responding. I'm not sure if we are related or not but here is the information I have on my grandparents:
My grandfather was:
James Allan Purcell and he was born in Sheet Harbour on 25 Feb 1870 and died on 22 Nov 1947 in Halifax
He married Ellen Sophia Smith (nickname Nellie) who was born in Edmundston, NB on 21 May 1887. She died in 1931 in Halifax
Unfortunately most of the family tree that I have is on my Mother's side and although her maiden name was Smith - there are quite a number of Steeves in her tree
They had 9 children Pat, Edgar, Bertha, James (my father), John, Ralph, Helen (Jean), Doug and Edna
That is about all the information I have so far. I am very interested in pursuing the Purcell relatives though. I'll be travelling home to Halifax in May for two weeks or so and will see what else I am able to find out then. It's difficult though because the few relatives that are left are all scattered and I have lost touch with most of them.

Patrick Murphy [Parents] was born 1 on 10 Jun 1844 in Sheet Harbour, NS. He was christened 2 on 4 Oct 1845 in St. Peter's, Dartmouth. He married 3 Margaret Ann Perry in 1871 in Sheet Harbour, NS.
"He married Margaret Ann Perry in 1871 at Sheet Harbour by Rev. Thomas Butler (per an updated entry in the St Peter's Sheet Harbour marriage register, but there is no civil record to confirm this event).
"He was a Roman Catholic seaman and his family lived with his father at Sheet Harbour in 1881. He was the captain of the schooner Foaming Billow and in 1885 rescued the schooner, Ros, sinking in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, for which feat he was awarded in March 1886 a pair of binoculars by the Lt. Gov. of Nova Scotia. In 1901 he was a Master Mariner living at Watt Section."
