1894 Alfred Chute

From a letter to the Courier from William CHUTE It becomes my painful duty to record the death of a beloved brother Alfred CHUTE at Coppertown ,Brown Co. ILL.on the 7th inst. in his 72nd.year. Deceased was the son of D. Andrew CHUTE of Clements and a cousin to the late H,N. CHUTE , M.P. P. and born the same year 1822. He went to Elgin Co. Ont. with parents, brothers, and sisters in 1841 and settled on a farm near Strathroy, Middlesax Co. 1844 married Olivia MINET [in the 15th generation from Henry BULMAN who had a mine in Somersethire and took 100 men of his miners armed them with battle axes and escorted King Edward III through a danderous place going to war against the French. The king acknowledged his favor ,granted him a coat of arms and changed his name to MINER in 1339]and lived there and in Adelaide ,an adjoining town for 20 years. In 1864 he sold out and moved to Blue Earth City Minn. and lived there for nine years., sold out and moved to Arkansas in 1873. and from there across the Mississippi River into Illinois in 1876. There his wife died Jan.7 1877 at age 53. He married again that year and lived in that County for 17 years. He was attacked with paralysis in the right side in Oct.1891 which kept him within doors and another attack Jan.6 that terminated his earthly existence. He was converted and joined the Baptist church in Malahide Ont. in 1842 , ordained a minister in 1851 and for 40 years preached the gospel of Jesis Christ in various places in Ontario, Minnesoto,Arkansa, and Illinois. They had four daughters and sons , all married and settled but one.

1894 Mrs Carrie Stailing

Digby courier 1894 March 16 At Digby on Sunday March 11 at 4 am Carrie beloved wife of Mr. Ensley Stailing peacefully passed away aged 40. A lonely husband and six children survive her to mourn their loss Second item The death occurred at an early hour Sunday morning of Mrs Ensley Stailing . Though not unexpected by either herself or her family ,for Mrs STAILING had been an invalid for some time, her death is a sad loss to the bereaved husband and children whose love and affection had been heightened by the calm Christian fortitude which characterized the wife and mother through her tedious months and years of suffering. Previous to her marriage , Mrs STAILING was a Miss JENKINS of Yarmouth County. The funeral which was largely attended took place WEdnesday , service being held at the Baptist Church of which deceased wasa devout and consistent member. THe remains were interred in the Baptist Cemetery.

1894 Mrs George Bowers

Digby courier The death occured at Westport on Sunday of Mrs George BOWERS who had been ill but a short time. Her son Herbert , attending academy at Wolfville passed through Digby Tuesday for home . He had not heard of his mother's illnessand the news of her death was a terrible shock to him.

Mary A. beloved wife of John WOODMAN passed away to her reward , July 27 aged 60 years. Mrs WOODMAN was a good woman and a faithful and consistent member of the Digby Baptist Church She leaves a sorrowing husband and four sons besides a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn her departure . 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.'

1894 Herbert SYDA

A Former Digby Resident Passes Away There died at Round Hill, Annapolis County, on Wednesday of last week, a gentlemen whom Digby knew in years gone by. Dr. Herbert SYDA came from England in the year 1846 and practised in his profession in Digby for nearly thirty years. The older generation well remembers him and his services but since, another generation has come. Succeeded by Dr. P.W. SMITH, in 1875 Dr. SYDA changed his field to Westport and was the physician of Brier Island for about nine years. And there too he is well remembered and gratefully. His next change was to Round Hill where he had resided for ten years, latterly in retirement from active duty. He was twice marreid, his second wife surviving him with a family of two daughters and two sons. Mr. John SYDA, of this town, is the only surviving member of the older family, a sister at Freeport dying some years ago. Dr. SYDA had reached the age of seventy nine years. His religious connection was with the church of England and the funeral services took place under direction of the pastor of the Round Hill parish on Friday last.

Lower Granville news Augustus ANTHONY , a seaman from the schooner O'Nora was knocked over board and drowned while on a trip to Boston. The O'Nora passed out of the Digby Gut for Boston arriving on Wednesday. Augustus was the youngest son of the late Coleman ANTHONY and was 31 years old and single. He was a quiet , steady going young man with a host of friends

Digby Courier August 7. 1896 DEATH OF MRS GEORGE DENTON Mrs Hannah DENTON, widow of the late George DENTON of Little River died at that place yesterday morning after an illness of about six weeks. The deceased was a person of exemplary character and was highly esteemed by all her many acquaintances . Having attained the good old age of eighty- four years she was very highly held as a village land mark . Her life was largely a domestic one but had witnessed many scenes of passing interest. She was in connection with the Baptist church under who the service will be held today.

DEATH OF A FORMER BEAR RIVER LADY The Bridgetown Moniter says : The residents of Tupperville and vicinity were saddened on Wednesday last by the intelligence of the death of Mrs Chas. A. INGLIS which took place after six weeks illness from cancer of the stomach. Previous to the development of the above disease , Mrs INGLIS had been a sufferer from rheumatism for many years, bearing this painful afficition with a Christain patience and resignation which served to endear her more fully to her family and friends ,who while now lamenting their loss rejoice in her gain. A devoted husband and five sons and daughters mourn the loss of a beloved wife and mother. The deceased was the former Miss Margaret A. RICE of Bear River and leaves a large number of relatives in this vicinity , among them are Mrs Benj. HARRIS of Bear River , and Mrs Jos. POTTER of Barton, sisters and Mr. John RICE of this town , a brother
