DENTON, Mildred E. - Born November 28, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Nelson and Vera (Trask) Kelly. Mildred passed away November 8, 2004, in Digby General Hospital, Digby. She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde; sisters, Helena Barnes (KELLY); Margaret Jay (KELLY); brothers, Gordon KELLY and Garnet KELLY. She is survived by sons, C. Allen (Cheryl) and Harley, both of Little River, Digby Co.; grandchildren, Jesse, Kaleigh and Rankin, all of North Sydney; sisters, Mabel GRAHAM (James) and Alma KELLY, both of Little River; Vera CARTER, Cambridge, Kings Co. She was a partner with her husband in their business, Clyde A. DENTON Ltd. Fish Processing Plant. There she held the position of Secretary-Treasurer for 27 years. She was a member of the Little River United Baptist Church where she served in many offices, worked with youth groups, Sunday school, Baby Band for over 50 years and a member of the choir. She served as President of the local W.M.S. and two terms as president for the Digby Annapolis Association. She loved to travel which had taken her to Europe, Asia and several parts of the United States and Canada. She was Past Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter, O.E.S. of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, a member of the St. Mary's Chapter No. 35, Digby, a member of Port Royal No. 1, Annapolis Royal, honorary member of Keystone No. 5, Yarmouth, Mayflower No. 2, Kingston, Britannia No. 18, Amherst, Westville No. 24, Westville, Hollywood No. 151, Hollywood, Fla., and of the grand chapters of Kansas, Texas and New Mexico. Her hobbies were knitting, quilting, scrapbooking, swimming, scrabble and cribbage. She leaves behind warm memories with the many people that knew her, she was always willing to give a helping hand - a devoted Christian, Mother, Grandmother and Friend - God has called her home. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, with an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. Thursday, both in Jayne's Funeral Home, 7 Birch St., Digby. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Little River United Baptist Church, Rev. John DICKINSON officiating. Interment in Hillcrest Cemetery, Little River. FARRIS, Terrance Leroy "Terry" - 55, Tiverton, Digby Co., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones, Friday, November 12, 2004, in Kentville. Born on October 29, 1949, in Kentville, he was a son of Ernest Farris, Kentville, and the late Dorothy (Francis) Farris. He had been employed with D.B. Kenney Fisheries, Westport, Digby Co., for the past eight years. He spent 12 years in the Royal Canadian Navy and served on the HMCS Fraser, the Algonquin and the Protector. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 92, Freeport, Digby Co. and a member of the Digby Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Terry was known to his buddies as "Buzzard" and will always be remembered for his great sense of humour. He is survived by his partner, Janet Titus, Tiverton; children, Christina Farris, Pictou, Pictou Co.; Terry (Karen) Farris, Digby; Janet's children, Tiffany and Morgan, Tiverton; sisters, Carol Ann (Joseph) Samson, Kentville; Linda (William) Stevens, Foxbrook, Pictou Co.; Valerie Farris, Kentville; Theresa (Alfred) Parks, Centreville, Kings Co.; brother, David (Susan), Coldbrook, Kings Co; Seven Grandchildren. Born October 13, 1937 in South Quinan, Yarmouth Co., he was a son of the late Réné and Florence (FROTTEN) FROTTEN. He was currently employed as a stationary engineer with Comeau Lumber in Meteghan. Lloyd was an avid hunter and a great outdoorsman. Surviving are his wife, Ida V. (SURETTE) Frotten; sons, Gary (Lynn), Calgary; Randall (Lisa), Springdale; grandchildren, Alex and Sophie; sisters, Angie MOUILASON and Priscilla (Eddie) MAILLETT, both of Ontario; Eunice (Herman) NICKERSON, Yarmouth. The family will receive visitors from 7-9 p.m. today in H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, with prayers at 8 p.m. where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 16, Rev. A veteran of the Second World War, Therese served in the Canadian Women's Army Corps. Therese enjoyed life, her family, camping in the summer and playing cards. Although she was ill, the past two years were precious, she was able to live in her home, surrounded by her family who dearly loved her. She is survived by daughters, Louise (Stewart) AMERO, Plympton; Juliette (Brian) COMEAU, Belliveau's Cove; Janette (Dawne) DOUCET, Aylesford; sons, Gerard (Mary) Doucet, St. Bernard; Antoinne (Tammy) Doucet, Belliveau's Cove; David (Cindy) Doucet, Yarmouth; brother, Bernard (Margaret) Blinn; sister, Anna LeBLANC; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. He was a carpenter employed with CFB Cornwallis for 28 years where he was well-known for his expertise in carpentry. Clayton built several boats used for trout fishing. He had many hobbies which included photography, fishing and playing cards. Clayton enjoyed traveling, especially with his family to different parts of Canada. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. PYLE, James William "Bill" - 67, Brighton, Digby Co., died peacefully in the VG Site, QEII, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Boylston, Guysborough Co., Bill was the only son of the late Howard and Mabel (LEES) PYLE. A career educator, Bill was a graduate of Nova Scotia Teachers College and Acadia University and served as a teacher in Halifax, Yarmouth, and Toronto, and as a principal in Shubenacadie, Truro, and Victoria Island, Cambridge Bay, N.W.T. His service as an administrator continued as Divisional Inspector of Schools for Digby-Annapolis, and, prior to his retirement in 1992, as Superintendent of Schools for the Digby District School Board. As an educator he was an active member of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union and School Administrators Association. He was also a councilor for the town of Truro where he served on numerous Boards of Directors. He was a lifelong active member of the Progressive Conservative Party and received the President's Award in 2000. He was a captain in the Supplementary Reserve of the Canadian Forces, and was a member of the Royal Western Nova Scotia Yacht Club, Eastern Light Lodge No. 72, A.F. & A.M., and a member of the Board of Directors for the Nova Scotia Hearing and Speech Foundation and the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation. He loved sailing and writing, and was a Formula 1 and football fan. He adored his family, delighted in his grandchildren, and valued the discourse and company of his friends. Bill will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his partner, Ruth SCHERING-HONG; son, Kevin (Denise), Truro; daughter, Ellen Louise (David) HICKS, Sackville, N.B.; grandchildren, Ben, Katie, Shelby, and Ethan; sisters, Edith (Robert) ANDERSON, Elsa (Ron) WEST, Pearl (Alan) SARTY, all of Sherbrooke, and Edna (Robert) LEOPOLD, Toronto, as well as many nieces and nephews, other family members and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 4, at Trinity Anglican Church, Queen Street, Digby, at 2 p.m., Rev. Thomas Vaughan officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Cremation has taken place, and at a later date the ashes will be scattered on the Milford Haven River which runs through Boylston. Memorial donations or gestures may be made according to the wishes of the donor. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 26 years and had been employed with DB Kenney Fisheries. He was a former Deputy Zone Commander and Zone Commander for the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 92, Freeport. He was a past Commissionaire for the village of Westport. Donald was very involved in his community; he enjoyed helping seniors and playing cribbage. He was a member of the Westport Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and took great pride in the appearance of his yard. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol (YOUNG); daughter, Wanda (Stewart) CHRISTENSON, Ontario; son, Donald (Kim), British Columbia; stepchildren, Lori, Lisa, Dean, Jerry, and Alvin; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, Herman, Hantford, Merrill, Lawrence, and Weldon; sisters, Alva and May. No visitation. Funeral service 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Westport Baptist Church, Rev. She was a loving grandmother of 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde; son, Carl; sisters, Blanche BARNETT, Mildred MILBURY and Eileen RING. She was a nurse for years on special cases at home, then at Digby General Hospital for 30 years in maternity and at Annapolis Hospital. She was active in Red Cross, Tideview Terrace Auxiliary, Seniors Horizon Club and Rebecca Lodge E G Club. She loved bingo, gardening and was always ready to help one in need. She was the only child of the late George an Ethel (DIMMEL) BENSON formerly of Bear River. Joyce had a love for music and was a member of two church choirs and up until two years ago sang with Bel Canto Singers. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 19, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in Jayne's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 20, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Jayne's Funeral Home, Rev. Paul Inman will be officiating. She will be laid to rest in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bear River. They were associated with the Blomidon Inn, Wolfville, the Champlain Hotel, Digby, the Carleton Hotel dining room, Halifax, and the Sword and Anchor Inn, Chester. Marguerite was predeceased by her husband, Jack. She is survived by her only son, Peter (Marion), Digby. Cremation has taken place. A private funeral service will be held at a later date. BIRSEL, Dr. Nuri - Digby, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on December 29, 2004, at the age of 80. He was born in Izmir, Turkey, in 1924 and completed his medical degree at the University of Istanbul in 1947. He did his military service as a doctor on the Turkish-Bulgarian border. He moved to Britain in 1949 to do post-graduate medical studies and completed his British medical degrees (L.R.C.P., L.R.C.S. Edin. 1956. L.R.F.P. and S. Glasg. 1956). He worked at various London teaching hospitals until he moved to Canada with his family in 1965. He took up practice at Freeport, Long Island, for one year and then moved to Digby where he practiced for the next 36 years until he was forced to retire, in 2002, after an accident. He was a keen sailor and spent many summer days in his boat on the Annapolis Basin. He is survived by his wife, Olive; his children, Sezen, Marcus, Robert and Kate; grandchildren, Emma, Alex and Julia; older brother, Macit BIRSEL, Izmir, Turkey. Visitation in Jayne's Funeral Home, Digby, on Monday, January 3, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Following private cremation, funeral service to be held in the Anglican Church, Digby, on Saturday, January 8, at 2 p.m. No flowers please at the request of the family. Donations may be made in his memory to Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders, Toronto, Canada).
