LOCATION:
South of Ragged Lake on the Prospect Road, the
community of Goodwood is less than seven kilometers from Halifax.
WHAT'S IN A NAME?
This descriptive name has been used prior to the
first land grants being issued in 1775 to John Gosbee, Thomas
Wagner, John Bower and Phillip Tollmer.
GENEALOGY:
The Drysdale and Umlah families arrived some time
during the 1860s. The Drysdales consisted of several brothers and
their sons, including Charles, James Sr., William and John. There
are descendants of some of the first settlers still living in the
area.
GOODWOOD TODAY:
Goodwood is largely a rural residential area
surrounded by dense woodland. It is also home to the Atlantic
Exhibition Park where a number of trade shows and the annual
Atlantic Winter Fair are held each year.
