LOCATION:

Indian Harbour is located less than two kilometers from Peggy's Cove.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

The area was once a popular fishing and hunting grounds for the Mi'kmaq.

SETTLEMENT HISTORY:

The Covey, Allen and Richardson families first settled the community. One pioneering settler, Christopher Allen, was a sailor who jumped ship in Halifax Harbour and found his way to St. Margaret's Bay.

GENEALOGY:

By 1866, other families were residing in the area, namely the Boutiliers, Manuels, Johnsons, Shatfords and Corkums.

INDIAN HARBOUR TODAY:

The community is in close proximity to Peggy's Cove, therefore many of the residents realized the benefits of establishing quality motels and bed and breakfast to cater to the Tourism industry.
