HALIFAX COUNTY
Seabright

LOCATION:

Situated between Tantallon and Glen Harbour on Route #333, Seabright at first was a part of French Village.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

When the Village was subdivided, this land became known as Hubley after one of the first settlers of 1785. But as there was already another Hubley in the same postal area, it was changed in 1902 to Seabright after the local Seabright Hotel.

GENEALOGY:

Other Loyalists and Foreign Protestants settled in and around Seabright. Such names as MacDonald, Umlah (Hemlock), Wooden, Collishawk, Redmond, Johnson and Hubley can still be found in the area. The MacDonalds, Redmonds and Woodens were Scottish families who arrived as Loyalists. The Umlahs, also Scottish, originally came from Philadelphia in 1762. William Umlah and his wife, a MacDonald, had ten children and many of the descendants of these children live in surrounding communities, including Goodwood, in the Prospect area.
