MCELHINEY,
Carman R. (Mac) - former managing editor of The
Chronicle-Herald and The Mail-Star, will be buried Monday in
Windsor following funeral services Monday morning at the Halifax
Funeral Home, Quinpool Road. Mr. McElhiney died suddenly early
Thursday morning in Toronto, where he and his wife had been
visiting relatives. The body will be flown back to Halifax
today. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be on Saturday
and Sunday. Mr. McElhiney, who would have marked his 68th
birthday in June, had been associated with these newspapers
since November 1925, when he left the Hants Journal, a weekly
publication in Windsor, to join The Halifax Herald staff as a
proofreader. In succeeding years he served as news editor of
both The Herald and The Mail-Star, and in 1960 was promoted to
the position of managing editor. Carman Rogers McElhiney was
born in Windsor, N. S., June 3, 1904, youngest of seven children
of George M. and Mabel (Smith) McElhiney. "Mac" was a product of
Windsor Academy. Sport was a major interest all of his life and
during his boyhood years he played junior baseball, hockey,
basketball and cricket. He was one of the organizers of the Town
Leagues in these sports in the Avon community. Mr. McElhiney was
a member of Welsford Lodge of Windsor and of the Scottish Rite
(32nd Degree) at Halifax. Surviving besides his wife, the former
Helen Conrad, one son Gerald R. McElhiney, Spryfield, a teacher
in St. Agnes school, Halifax. He is survived also by one sister
Dorothy (Mrs. H. S. Anslow), Windsor. Predeceased are two
sisters Miss Mabel McElhiney, Windsor and Miss Almeda McElhiney,
Wolfville, and three brothers, Gerald C., George P. and Murray
G. McElhiney, all of Windsor, N.S.

SIMM, Russell
C. - 63, of Gore died at the Victoria General Hospital
Saturday. Born at Gore, Hants County, he was the son of the late
Creighton and Annie (Walker) Simm. Surviving are his wife,
Edith; a daughter, Annie (Mrs. Ronald Wood); three sons, Roger
and Warren, both of Gore; Aubrey, Dartmouth; five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Keith. The body is at the
Withrow-MacMillan Funeral Home, Upper Rawdon. Funeral service
will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. from the Church of Christ,
West Gore, Lic. Robert Johnson officiating. Burial will be in
the church cemetery.

KENTY, J. W.
- Isaac's Harbor - James Wallace Kenty, 75, of Isaac's Harbor,
was buried in the Baptist Church cemetery following funeral
service from the church with Rev. Robert Taylor officiating.
Born in Elmsdale, he was the son of the late J. Wilson and Alice
(Wallace) Kenty. He is survived by his wife, Louie Mae; a
daughter, Mary (Mrs. Kenneth Smith), Halifax; a son, James,
Toronto; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister
and a brother.

CANAVAN, Mrs.
Percy - 57, Halifax, died Friday at Victoria General
Hospital. Born in Newport Corner, the former Gladys Pearl Brown,
she was a daughter of the late Walter and Annabelle (McLeod)
Brown. She is survived by her husband, Percy, Hillsvale; one
daughter, Annabelle (Mrs. Earl Wellwood), Rawdon; two sons,
Kenneth, Bedford; Ronald, Alberta; four sisters, Flora, Boston;
Marguerite, Boston; Maude (Mrs. Lewis Davis), Adoise; Jennie
(Mrs. Arthur Davison), Ellershouse; one brother, Allister,
Martock; nine grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son and
two sisters. The body is at the Lohnes Funeral Home. Funeral
service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from the St. James
Anglican Church, Brookland, with Rev. E. E. Hill officiating.
Burial will be in St. Croix cemetery.
