BURGESS, Roy A.
- Roy A. Burgess, 72, husband of Dorothy H. (Manning) Burgess of
260 Pitman St., died Tuesday after a long illness. Born in Nova
Scotia, Canada, son of the late John G. and the late Grace (Rathbun)
Burgess, he resided here since moving to this city in 1935. He
worked as a wharf builder, engineer and operating engineer at
the Newport Naval Base for 21 years, retiring in 1969. Prior to
that, Mr. Burgess was employed as a wharf builder for Merrit
Chapman and Scott Engineering of New London, Conn. for three
years. He was a chief petty officer in the U. S. Navy Seabees
during World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a member of
Immaculate Conception Parish for over 50 years. He and his wife
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 22, 1985.
Besides his widow, he leaves three sons, John G. and James H.
Burgess, both of this city, and Richard R. Burgess of Swansea;
two brothers, Grant Burgess of Waterford, Conn., and Frank
Burgess of Nova Scotia; six sisters, Mrs. Wilfred (Marjorie)
Sanford, Mrs. Harry (May) Spalding, Mrs. Joseph (Madge) Dill and
Mrs. Helen Jayne, all of Nova Scotia, Mrs. Bruce (Lillian)
Rutter of Toronto, Canada, and Mrs. Alice Lockhart of Ontario,
Canada; 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several
nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by the Cherry Place Home of
Waring-Ashton and Coughlin, D.D. Sullivan-Driscoll, 178 Winter
St.

KEHOE, Ralph
Morris - 73, of Martock, Hants County, died Friday in Hants
Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Martock, he was the son of
Rachel (Greeno) Kehoe, Windsor, and the late Edward Kehoe. He
was a carpenter by trade and was formerly employed with C. Pat
Flemming Construction. He was a veteran of the Second World War
and served overseas with the Canadian Engineers, Canadian Army.
He was a member of the Hants County Branch No. 9, Royal Canadian
Legion and of St. Michael's Anglican Church, Windsor Forks.
Surviving locally is a daughter, Janet (Mrs. Stephen
McAllister), Antigonish. He was predeceased by three brothers, a
sister and a half-sister. The remains are resting in the R. D.
Lindsay Funeral Home, Windsor. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m.
Monday in St. Michael's Anglican Church, Windsor Forks.
Interment will be in the Windsor Forks Community Cemetery.
Donations may be made to St. Michael's Anglican Church or any
charity.

CARD, Edwin
Leon - 75, of Falmouth, Hants County, and Grand Pre, Kings
County, died Monday in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born
in Boute Island, he was a son of the late Leon and Maude (Bezanson)
Card. He was a retired farmer. Among the survivors is a sister,
Thelma (Mrs. Campbell McKay), Pictou Landing. The remains are
resting at the R.D. Lindsay Funeral Home, Windsor, where funeral
will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Greenfield
cemetery, Greenfield, Kings County. Donations may be made to the
Nova Scotia Heart Foundation or any charity.
