John M. Macumber was appointed Town Clerk Jan 1842
Whereas there is an act in this province entitled an act in amendment of and addition to an act made in the first year of his present Majesties reign
entitled and act for the registering marriages births and deaths.
The former act directed the proprietors clerks to be registers of marriage births and deaths and by the later act the town clerks are appointed registers of marriages in their respective townships.
Accordingly, the proprietors clerk who also is the town clerk of this township has registered in this book the Marriages, Births and Deaths which have been in this Township of Newport perfectly agreeable to the accounts rendered to the register by parents and other persons related to or particularly required or concurred to give account to the register of marriages.
This book is divided into three parts. The first part contains the names of persons and the time when married. The second part contains a record of the time of children's births, their names and surnames and the names of their parents. The third part contains a record of deaths in this township.
