A sad drowning accident occurred off Pope’s harbor on Thursday. A boat owned by Reuben and George DAY, with two of his brothers, was out fishing. When about leaving the fishing grounds, George a young man about twenty-two years of age, was knocked overboard and drowned. He was dressed with a singlet, black oil pants and had on rubber boots, and had a watch and chain on him. The remains were not found. Anybody picking up the body would confer a favor by immediately communicating with Robert DAY of Pope’s harbor.

On Thursday, George DAY, of Pope’s Harbor, lost his life as the result of a distressing accident while out fishing. He, with three of his brothers, went out taking a boat and a dory. Two of the party got into the dory and it was in returning to permit them to re-enter the boat, after the fishing, that the accident occurred. The boom swerved suddenly, knocking DAY
senseless into the water. He was well known and much liked in the neighborhood

John BAKER, the light keeper at Marie Joseph, and his son Percy, were drowned at that place a few days ago. The boat in which they were rowing was upset in some way unknown.

MARIE JOSEPH, March 19 - Deep gloom was cast over this village a few days ago by the drowning accident in which a father and his only son lost their lives. John BAKER, the light keeper, and his son Percy left their home in a dory on March 12th to gather driftwood at Barren Island. They set out about 7 o’clock in the morning and until three or four hours later when their bodies were found washed up on the beach, nothing was seen of them. How the accident happened or what occurred after the two men were thrown into the water, will never be known. Mrs. BAKER, the grief-stricken wife and mother, is prostrated by the blow by which her entire family were wiped out. The funeral which took place on Monday last was one of the largest in the history of this place. The funeral took place from St. Matthias’ Church.
Tuesday, April 19, 1927 The Bridgewater Bulletin - BAKER, Florence Hyacinth On Easter morn, at the home of her brother, Frank Baker, Florence Hyacinth Baker aged 49 years, passed away after a long-illness. Miss Baker was the daughter of the late Solomon and Matilda Baker. She was born in Bridgewater, but lived most of her life in the United States. She is survived by three brothers, Angus, Stanley and Frank, and two sisters, (Adella) Mrs Loring B. Hawes, Grove Hall, Mass., and (Addie) Mrs Clifford Jefferson, Bridgewater. Funeral will be held from the residence of her brother, Frank Baker, on Wednesday afternoon at 2.30 o’clock.

Dartmouth:- The funeral took place at Eastern Passage yesterday, of Mary E. WILLIAMS, whose death occurred at Devil’s Island on Saturday. The services were held at the Roman Catholic church at Eastern Passage, Monsignor UNDERWOOD officiating. The church was packed for the service. The deceased was a resident of the island practically all her life and was well liked by all who knew her.
Tuesday, November 20, 1928 - Bridgewater Bulletin The death occurred suddenly at Blockhouse, N.S., of Alexander R. Dean, who has been in poor health for some time due to paralytic strokes. The deceased was the son of the late Thomas Ellis Dean, of Sheet Harbour, and was seventy-three years of age. He is survived by his wife, three daughters:- Mrs Beatrice Zwicker, of Newton Center, Mass.; Mrs Cecil Morgan, Mrs Wilfred Sorette, Bridgewater, also three sons:- Ozen of Andover, Maine; Gilbert of Kemptville and Ed of Cochrane, Ont. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., on Nov. 11th services were conducted by the Rev Earle of Knox Presbyterian Church of Mahone and was largely attended by numerous friends
