**DON'T MISS**IMPORTANT MEETING

Topic of discussion is the events taking place for the family reunion week.

Mon., JULY 7th, 2003 7:00pm

3rd floor Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic

Secretary Needed

The S.S.G.S is currently looking to a fill the position of secretary on the executive. Responsibilities are taking the minutes at the meetings, every second month.

The Relatives Are Coming! The Relatives Are Coming!

What an exciting time the next few months will be for all who are genealogy buffs. Everyone is getting excited hoping that they will meet or find out about that person, or part of the family ,who has been elusive to their particular tree!

Just imagine yourself in a large gathering looking across the room and "seeing" Great Uncle Harold, only to find out that he is really Great Uncle Henry who you had always been led to believe had "died young". What great fun to build an extension onto that former shortened branch. Just imagine how much extra information you can gather from just such an encounter, and how much information you can pass on to him. Now why didn't we all take short hand at school so we could get all this information down and not leave out any delectable part of any story that is being told ? We were younger then and there was so much time to the future, we just knew we could remember everything and there was no need to put things down on paper! No, we were "memory machines" with fantastic capabilities. I wonder where the recall button for the facts in our "memory machine" is ? I know! It is hidden somewhere in the stacks of notes between my mother's family, my father's family, and the families of my husband ! It will magically reappear someday.

On behalf of the members of the South Shore Genealogical Society, I hope you have a great visit to the best country and town that just happens to be the first Canadian home to our ancestors. For many of us, it is where our roots are firmly planted and continue to grow.

Sheila Chambers
S.S.G.S President
