Scope

This web site was created to be a portal of information on the Minas Acadian history.

  • The Minas Historical Society is a loose society that exist on the good will of its support group: contributors, volunteers, and interested web visitors. The society is not incorporated and its scope will evolve according to it support group. The web site is now managed by Roger Hétu and is hosted under RootsWeb Agreement for Genealogical/Historical Societies.

  • By "Minas" we mean mainly the five tidal rivers (Pereau, Habitant, Canards, St-Antoine and Gaspereau) where Acadians settled since the 1680's. However, by extension it also includes all the Minas basin settlements (all the shore between Cape Blomindon to Cape D'Or).

  • In the "Pre-Deportation History" the Acadian Odyssey (1755-1800s) that resulted will be included.

  • Upon availability of contributors, early Minas Mik'maw history could be included.
  • Upon availability of contributors, early Planters history could be included.

  • By historical information we mean
    • written documents
    • genealogy
    • archaeology
    • cartography
    • folklore: customs, oral traditions, legends & family stories
    • etc..
