month of June
The Artwork of Pictou Island - Paintings by local artist
Carolyn
Vienneau. Celebrate
the 65th Anniversaty of D-Day - View weapons and uniforms used and
worn by Canadian and German soldiers in the Second World War. The
History of Print in Pictou - Did you know that the first newspaper
in Nova Scotia outside of Halifax was started right here in Pictou by a
student of Thomas McCulloch? Come see some examples of early papers,
and learn a brief history of the press, from "monks to Macs". Monday,
June 1
McCulloch House opens for the season! We will be open 7 days a
week until October 15. Saturday,
June 13
Join us for an afternoon of fun at the McCulloch House. From
12:00 to 2:00, enjoy a hot dog and a drink, have your face painted, and
participate in "McCulloch's Junior Nature Guide" program.
Go through our hay maze or try your hand at making a grapevine
wreath. Admission is FREE to both sites for the whole day. Monday,

The Importance of Protecting our Heritage - Join us for
a fun and informative evening with guest speaker Elizabeth May. This
event is to be held at the Hector Exhibit Centre, and starts at
7:30pm. Light refreshments to follow. The

2009 Dog Show - Part of the 75th Annual Pictou
Lobster Carnival. This event
starts at 3:00pm, and is open to participants 12 years and under and
accompanied by an adult. All dogs must be kept on a leash.
Registration upon arrival. BBQ and face painting! The
month of August
Pictou County Artists' Association Show & Sale - An
annual exhibit. Come view artwork produced by some talented local
artists. Maybe you'll find one to add to your own collection! Saturday,
August 22
Our first Junior Highland Games competition! Wee lads and
lassies between 4 and 12 years of age, come try your hand at our Jr.
Highland Games. Throw a rubber boot in the Welly Toss, or hurl the
Haggis! Are you strong enough to toss the Caber? Maybe try
the shot put. You can wear a kilt if you want! Come and have
fun. Please call for information about pre-registration. Sunday,
September 13
Blueberry Social - 1-3pm, featuring entertainment by
the Keltic Kittens (led by Darla MacKeil). Come out for tea or
coffee, a blueberry dessert, and some toe-tapping music. Admission
$5 per person. Thursday,

McCulloch House's last day open for the season! Also on this
date, the Hector Centre goes into winter hours (Monday-Friday, 9-5,
closed for lunch 12-1). We
