BENAUD

Captain Jean Benaud was the father of Louis Ferdinand Benaud. He was a well known skipper & owner of several vessels. In later years, Captain Benaud traded between Sydney & the Manning in his Ketch "Lightning". Jean Benaud was killed when riding home from the Wingham races, when his horse bolted.

Louis reflected his fathers interest in North Coast Shipping. When the family moved to Grafton, Louis was appreniced to the "Grafton Argus" & later joined the staff of the "Clarence & Richmond Examiner" under Mr Varley.

On 9th July, 1886, the first issue of the "Richmond River Herald" appeared published at Coraki by Mr L. F. Benaud, owner & editor.

In his lifetime Mr L. F. Benaud was Mayor of Coraki several times & a member of several organisations.
