THE RYERSON INDEX
to contemporary death notices and obituaries in Australian newspapers
Long term users of the Ryerson Index may recall that there used to be a facility to search for records which contained a specific location. This search was particularly valuable for local historians and others who have an interest in a specific area. Unfortunately various constraints within the system meant that it had to be discontinued.
However Ryerson Index Inc decided to re-introduce this facility, but functioning in a different way. Instead of it being an on-line search it will operate by means of email requests which will be answered by a volunteer who will conduct an off-line search of a copy of the database.
What this search IS
is a search of the Ryerson Index (and nothing else) for
What this search is NOT
It is not a search for a specific person. If the person that you are searching for is not in the Ryerson Index you will need to use other resources.
It is not a request for you to send us details of where somebody lived or died.
Unfortunately we are not in a position to undertake general research and requests which do not comply with the specified criteria will have to remain unanswered. Therefore please ensure that your request is a valid one.
You may request a search for a range of years in up to 5 locations. For example a request may be for 2000 to 2005 in Milton and Ulladulla. This search would produce 580 results as at October 2011. The results will be provided as a simple Excel file containing surname, given names, date of death, age and all of the location fields (i.e. at, late of and formerly of).
The first few of these results would look like this.
If researchers require further information such as the newspaper and its publication date they will need to make their own searches of the Ryerson Index for this information.
