Visit to State Records at Kingswood, Sydney on 27 July 2013. We will be leaving the Coles Carpark at Toukley at 7.20am then picking up at Westfield Tuggerah outside the Post Office. When booking a seat please let us know where you wish to be picked up. The first 20 members to give their names and pay their fare of $25 will secure a seat. It is necessary to bring your lunch as State Records is not near any food outlets. There is a lunchroom with refrigerator and tea and coffee making facilities. Lockers are available for your bags etc. Only a folder and pencils can be taken into the research room. Take plenty of $1 and $2 coins for the machine which prints from microfilm and microfiche. Paper documents are photocopied by the backroom staff and are picked up at the end of the day.
Prepare beforehand. Decide what you are going to look up. Up to four paper documents can be pre-ordered on the internet in the week leading up to the visit and they will be ready for you when you arrive. A reader's ticket is required. If you do not have one, this can also be ordered over the internet and picked up on the day. (No charge for the ticket). Examples of documents are wills, deceased estate records, railway records, school records (mostly administration) etc. Check the State Records website. Contact 'The Cottage' on 4351 2211 with any questions.
It is possible to save microfilmed material to a USB key via a copy machine in both reading rooms free of charge. Bring along your own USB key or if you have forgotten yours State Records have them available to purchase for $10.00 each. There are instructions (next to the copy machine) to follow when using the USB saving facility. Ask about this option at the reading room desk. This service is free.
A credit card processing fee surcharge of 0.4% applies to all credit card transactions, including in the reading room, orders received by mail and online copy orders. The surcharge is a directive from NSW Treasury and applies to all State government agencies.
