About the DAR
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was founded on October 11, 1890, with the purposes of historic preservation, promotion of education, and patriotic endeavor. Any woman 18 years of age and who can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence may be voted into membership by the chapter. Documentation of said lineage must be provided according to NSDAR guidelines on the official membership application and with acceptable supporting materials.
The National Society has 38 standing committees which promote its three purposes. These include: educational programs, scholarship competitions, citizenship awards, school contests, sponsorship of schools for underprivileged children, literacy programs, genealogical records, national genealogical library, lineage research, DAR Museum, community service, national defense, units overseas, Constitution and U.S. flag, conservation, commemorative events, naturalization, and volunteerism. Wherever your interest lies, the DAR has a program area where you can enjoy working with other women to support God, Home, and Country.

About Nevada
Admitted to statehood on October 31, 1864, during the waning days of the Civil War, Nevada is known as the Silver State, the Sagebrush State, or the Battle Born State. Its state motto is "All for our Country."
Nevada's first settlement was in 1851 near the now state capital of Carson City, and Carson County was officially established as part of the Utah Territory in 1854. The state name, Nevada, was officially adopted in 1861 by Congress and derives from a Spanish term meaning snow-capped, for the beautiful snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains which border our state capital to the west and are home to pristine Lake Tahoe.
Nevada is 483 miles long and 320 miles wide. With 110,540 square miles of land, Nevada is the seventh largest state in the nation. The 2000 census lists Nevada's population as 1,998,257.
Nevada's geography ranges from southwest, arid desert conditions in the southern part of the state to high desert, mountains, and alpine lakes in the northern area. For more information about Nevada, visit the official State of Nevada web site.
