Abigail Fillmore Chapter

Chapter meetings are held at various locations in the Buffalo area, generally on the fourth Friday of the month. Saturday meetings are held several times a year in membersí homes for those who work, and special events are held throughout the year. The chapter routinely presents American Flags to new citizens at naturalization ceremonies in Erie County, conducts genealogy workshops for those interested in membership as well as those working on family trees, and presents DAR medals and certificates to area students for achievement in patrioticendeavors.

Every May, Abigail Fillmore Chapter honors the memory of its namesake by placing a wreath at her commemorative stone in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The chapter erected the stone in the Fillmore family plot, and also contributed a flagpole that can be seen from nearly every vantage point in the historic cemetery.

On the Sunday nearest Flag Day, June 14th, the chapter conducts a Flag Disposal Ceremony for members of the community. The chapter received an award in 1999, from the National Society, for Outstanding Achievement in Best All-Around Community Flag Celebration.

Abigail Fillmore Chapter, currently has 48 members. The George Washington Parke Custis Society, Children of the American Revolution, is sponsored by the chapter.
