NEWMAN, H. LEE
Born in Randolph, N.Y., May 12, 1884; died November 12, 1946. A son of Wilson Jay and Anna Newman. His 
father was an architect and designed buildings at the Randolph Home and many buildings in Randolph and 
Olean. H. L. Newman came to Angelica in 1908 with the Pittsburgh, Shawmut and Northern Railroad and 
was the maintenance engineer for many years, and also designed all the buildings.  Always civic minded,
Mr. Newman was trustee of the Angelica Water Board for many years, and president of the Board of 
Education for twelve years. When Angelica put electricity in the town in 1923 he planned the street the
lighting. He never refused to do anything that was asked of him for the betterment of the town.
He was a member, vestryman and treasurer of St. Paul's Episcopal Church for over 30 years; member of 
Melrose Lodge No. 818 F. & A.M.; Wellsville Chapter B.R.A.M.- and Corning Consistory, and past
secretary and treasurer of the Allegany County Scottish Rite Association.  He is survived by his widow,
Lucile Thornton Newman; a son, John Thornton Newman; a sister, Mabel Adele Newman of Olean, and a 
brother, Herbert Jay Newman of Parsons, West Virginia, and several nieces and nephews. Buried in 
Angelica.

NEWMAN, Mrs. H. LEE
Died February 17, 1920. Former Jane Gillies Wescott, she was born in Mt. Morris, March 2. 
On July 19, 1916 she was married to H. Lee Newman of this town. Survived by her husband, H. Lee Newman;
 her mother, Mrs. James Wescott, and one sister, Mrs. Ethel Wescott.

Youngest child of Richard and Sally Ann Hill Norton, born in West Almond on February 22, 1853; died on 
August 10, 1938. Husband, Oscar Norton died July 18, 1907. Survived by four sons, Lon and Arthur of 
West Almond; Blaine and Floyd of Alfred Station. Burial in Angelica.

1897, to Grace Bates of Angelica. Survived by wife, two sons, Hobart Norton of Akron, Ohio, and Ralph

NORTON, HOLLIS LEROY
Born March 4, 1908 in Birdsall, of Samuel and Vesta Mae Warner Norton; died January 8, 1940. Survived 
by mother and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Edna Burdick of Andover; Mary Norton of 
Hornell; Mrs. Beulah McHenry and Mrs. Gertrude White of Olean; Frank Norton of Ontario, N.Y.; John and

NORTON, JOHN B., M.D.
Born 1793 at Greenville. Attended seminary of Auburn for two years. Served in the War of 1812. 
Married Jane C. Marvin. They had eight children. Dr. Norton died in 1878; Mrs. Norton in 1860.

Born September 2, 1872 in Angelica, daughter of Frank and Louisa Willis Warner; died June 4, 1950 at 
Andover. In 1894, she married Samuel Norton, who died August 28, 1937. Survived by three sons, John B. 
Norton, Francis W. Norton, and Philip Norton, all of Angelica; four daughters, Mrs. Clifford Burdick,

Born in Angelica, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bates. Died December 30, 1948. Survived by two 
sisters, Mrs. Lottie Steward and Mrs. Jennie Engle, both of Olean; two brothers, Grover Bates of 
Elmira and Edwin Bates of Ohio. Burial in Angelica.

Born May 30, 1844 of Samuel and Deborah Ann Ogden in Angelica; died April 22, 1919 in Angelica. 
Married 52 years ago on April 2, to Miss Elizabeth Buckley. Survivors: wife; daughter, Mrs. Jennie 
Sandford, Olean; niece, Mrs. Merton Green, Angelica. Early in life he learned the wagon maker's trade. 
Served four years in the Civil War. Worked 21 years for William Seiver Carriage & Wagon Shop. 
Conducted a shop of his own for four years. Collected a wonderful collection of natural curios. 
Election Inspector 1898-1900. Burial in Angelica. 	Lot 706

OLBEY, Mrs. MARY
Born in Onondaga County, New York, in 1828 of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tousey. Her mother was a member of 
the Stock Bridge Indian Tribe. She died at Warsaw on October 10, 1913. Married Andrew Olbey of Angelica,
an industrious blacksmith. She lived in Angelica for 50 years. Survived by son, James B. Olbey of 
Warsaw. Burial in Warsaw. 	Lot 665

OSGOOD, ROWENA CHARLOTTE
Died on Saturday, October 11, 1919, at the age of 89 years. Born in Smethport, Pa. on September 26, 1830.
The early part of her life was spent in Bradford, Pa., where she was married to Edmund O. Osgood on 
October 28, 1849. They resided there until 1878, when they moved to Angelica. Husband preceded her in 
death. The mother of 11 children, ten of whom survive.		Lot 101

10 months.
