From Sharon F. DePuy files-
Garret & Nancy Dedrick were married in 1815 and formerly lived in the vicinity of Albany, N. Y. They moved to Coverntry, N. Y. and lived there for one year. Then they moved to Chenango Point, now known as Binghamton, N. Y. They lived in a small place on Oak St., which is now the Binghamton Central High School. (Sharon's note: this piece of information indicates that the document was typed sometime before Sept. 1984 because at that time, Binghamton Central High School became Binghamton High School after the consolidation of two Binghamton high schools into one.) Finding this small place would not support his growing family, he acquired 88 acres of new land in the Town of Union. This was later part of Johnson City. After a time, he bought 66 acres on the eastern side of the original farm. This was later known as the Daniel Dedrick Farm, now as Park View. Moses and Daniel Dedrick (two of Garret's sons) bought the farm of their parents and built a home for them to the west of the original farm.

Dedrick, Edwin C., birth--2-22-1845    
Edwin was a farmer in the Town of Union, Broome Co. and was born there. His grandfather, Garret Dedrick, pioneer settler in Broome Co., came here from his native place in Dutchess County, purchased land which was all timbered, and made his home here until his death. He was accompanied to his new home by his family, including John P., who was Edwin's father. John P. was reared on the farm remaining at home until age 21, when he came to the Town of Union and bought a farm where he lived for some time, then removed to East Maine, residing there for a while, finally making his home in Binghamton, where he died at the age of 69 years. John P. married Amanda Barnum, who was still alive at the time this book was put together. There were 4 children born to Mr. & Mrs. John P. Dedrick, namely Edwin C., Elvira, John E. and Orson B.
"When Edwin was 25 he married Nancy Williams on November 10, 1869. Nancy was the daughter of Erastus Williams and Hannah Barnum Williams of Dryden, Tompkins Co. N.Y Edwin & Nancy had two children Minne and Ralph. All belonged to the Methodist Church of Choconut Centre. Edwin ardently espoused the cause of Prohibition. The Dedricks were highly respected and admired. Mrs. Dedrick stands prominent among wives and mothers as an admirable caretaker and economical supervisor." They could not have reached their present prosperous condition if "willful waste" and carelessness indoors had opposed industry and thrift outdoors."
From the Dryden Historical records, Edwin Charles Dedrick was the first recorded president of the Dryden Telephone Company. "Early in 1903, four or five farmers of Willow Glen met one evening and talked over plans for connecting the farmers of that locality by telephone...... Matilda at the age of 2 moved with her parents to the town of Conklin, N. Y. At the age of 22 she was married to William Wallace Tyler also of the town of Conklin--Mar 13, 1878. One year later they went to Albion, Neb. to make their home, where they lived for nearly 20 years. There were 4 children born to them at Albion, Neb. All returned to the Binghamton, N. Y. area and later died, buried in area cemeteries.

Matilda at the age of two (2) moved with her parents to the Town of Conklin, N.Y. At the age of 22, she was married to William Wallace Tyler also of the Town of Conklin. One year later they went to Albion, Neb. to make their home, where they lived for nearly 20 years. There were 4 children born to them at Albion, Neb.
Matilda A. & William Wallace Tyler returned to Binghamton, N.y on December 14, 1897. William died in Binghamton on Aug 2, 1900--he is buried in Spring Forest Cemetery, Binghamton, N.Y. Matilda continued her residence in Binghamton where she died 31 years later on Nov. 21, 1931 at 45 Hayes St., he is also buried in Spring Forest Cemetery.
