Notes for HUGH I. BENN, SR.:

His given name looks like "Guy" in the baptismal records of St Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Hook, NY(Dutch or German script in baptismal records looks like Guij). His parents are listed as John Bain and Antigen Decker on that baptismal record.

His gravestone in Hallstead, Susquehanna Co., PA records him being "71 yr, 3 MOS, 5 da" old at the time of his death, April 5, 1843. This places his actual birthday about Dec. 31, 1771. This is the only Hugh Benn whose record of birth matches what is known about the Hugh I. Benn who was an early settler in Broome County. He married Betsy Wilkerson about 1797 . They located to Broome Co. by 1800. An early highway map (between Windsor and Binghamton) dated "1818", shows their farm in Occanum, situated just about 3 miles west of Windsor.
