Smiths History of Broome County devotes a large number of pages to information on the Civil War and its effects on Broome County. Included in those pages is a list of the young men who volunteered from the Town of Union that died in the conflict1. However, the data may be highly inaccurate. The facts listed for almost every soldier disagrees with the official records issued after the war. Some of the "dead" soldiers are even listed as mustering out.
Sometimes, even the official records contradict themselves. Take for example, Henry Pulsivar’s records. On the listing from Andersonville’s official records, he is assigned a code number starting with 4. This indicates a survivor. However, the remarks for that record state he died in Florence.
The information from the book is listed first in bold print; the data after that is information from other sources.
The listed soldiers were:
Manton C. Angell, captain 16th infantry, was killed in the battle of Antietam, September 17th, 1862.

Andersonville records seem to conflict as to whether he survived Andersonville Note the 4 in the first position of the code data – That indicates he survived. However, the remarks contradict this. Note the regiment is wrong, just like the prior listing for James Fredenberg.
