REDWOOD PIONEERS
ELIZABETH (HALLER) BICKELHAUPT
PARENTS OF MRS. PETER BICKELHAUPT EARLY SETTLERS OF REDWOOD
The death of Mrs. Elizabeth Bickelhaupt hasbrought to the attention of older local residents the interesting fact that Mrs. Bickelhaupt's parents came to their home here in an oxteam from New York. They were Mr. and Mrs. John Haller and were the pioneer residents of this section. Landing at New York in 1828, they set out with their [ox] team which they brought with them from Germany to find a home in the interior.
They followed the Hudson River and the Erie Canal to Utica, whence they turned north to Lafargeville. It was here that Mrs. Bickelhaupt was born. In 1858 she was married to the late Peter Bickelhaupt.
