From 1993 Memories of the Thousand Islands Sun, by the gracious permission of Jeanne Snow, editor. The Cornwall Brothers Store appears to be almost as much an icon of Alexandria Bay as Boldt Castle. This is a clear view of the storefront facing the St. Lawrence River, its porch looking spruce and freshly painted. The addition has been built on the front facing the street. In its heyday, at the turn of the century, it was the center of commerce for the community. The landmark building earlier sold a general line of merchandise, but also specialized in lumber, timber, and ashes. This stone building was erected in 1866, after a previous wooden store on the site burned to the ground in 1865.
