PLESSIS

From THEWATERTOWN RE-UNION, JANUARY 18, 1873

From our own correspondent

--Weather has been very changeable for the last few days; water stood a foot or more deep in the road above the bridge on Friday morning; the road for a few feet was almost impassible, for man or beast, until the large cakes of ice were removed, giving the creek a passage.

--We give the happy couple, Mr. Spencer McAllister and wife, our sincere congratulations. Mrs. McAllister was formerly Miss Marie Peck, of Plessis, late of Binghamton, in this State. They are, we hear, to make their home in California, where Mr. McAllister has resided for a number of years.

--I was amused at "Nemo's" offering a seat in a store at Cape Vincent. There are none who wish to sell out their share of room in our Post Office. There "is not one vacant chair," but all are constantly occupied.

--Plessis has been called for the last few years Africa by her sister villages, on account of her dark political principles, but I really think it was a mistake, and the name should have been applied to Redwood, if as "Lancet" stated last week, there are but "four White families" in a village of that size. (Now, Lancet, don't get angry, I am only joking.)

--Little Dessie, youngest child of Mr. F. Ahles, died on the morning of the 18th, her second birthday, of scarlet fever, after an illness of only two days. Dessie was a sweet, winsome little child, and very smart and active for her age. Her sudden death darkens her earthly home. Mr. Ahles' little boy now lies dangerously ill, but hopes are entertained of his recovery. The parents have the heartfelt sympathy of all.

--Scarlet fever is spreading fearfully, leaving evidence of its power.
