WHYS AND WHEREFORES

Everyone starts a new project with good intentions, high hopes, and impossible ideals. The intention here is to provide a site that will present the HISTORY of the Town of Alexandria. Major events are important, and will be noted as described by the principal Jefferson County historians, beginning with Hough and continuing on to the 20th century. Except for our veterans, we will not progress beyond 1920.

The most important aspect of history is that least recognized by historians, social history, or the way we lived. I grew up here, and though born in the 20th century, our family's daily life was conducted, for the most part, as our forbears did in the 19th century. This site will be closely allied to the Jefferson County GenWeb site, as Jefferson County coordinators have always cooperated. History of this town will be found mainly on this site, genealogy on GenWeb. We hope you will find viewing this site profitable and rewarding, and our ideal is to have it the best possible of its kind.
