E. Jean Conti provided this picture of her grandparents' store to the 1994 Memories of the Thousand Islands Sun. Calvin Wilson built this house at 24 Walton Street in Alexandria Bay by himself in 1882-83. He broke all of the granite rock ledge with an iron post and mallet, then transported the rocks to his family home by Crystal Lake outside Redwood. He cut the trees from the family farmland, took them to the mill, and then brought them to Alexandria Bay, all by horse and wagon. His family lived upstairs over the general store on the right, and he rented to such businesses as a photography studio (Smith and Wilbur) and a fur store. The Bachman house, now the rectory of St. Cyril's church, is at the left. Mr. Wilson stands at left, on the steps to his store.
