Other Helpful Starters

You may find these "off site" links helpful
  • Digital Librarian Genealogy Resources  A great set of links which is maintained by Margaret Vail Anderson, a librarian in Cortland, New York
  • Just Genealogy - Contains tons of interesting free links and a Genealogy Chat Room.   Caveat: There are a few links that point to commercial sites and they aren't differentiated from those that are free.  Some links don't display with Netscape 4.79 but will with Netscape 6.1.

ISTG Logo Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild This is a web site here on RootsWeb built by volunteers dedicated to making the search for our ancestors immigration easier. This is a relatively new project. Although they have 4000  ships transcribed, it is a small number in the overall  picture, there are thousands more to be done.

GenLookup GenLookups.com is a national wide directory of  genealogy lookup volunteers on the web. Potentially a very helpful site. Before using it, read their "Rules for Researchers" - a nice explaination of the ettiquette that one should follow when requesting information from a lookup volunteer.

New York County Formation Maps.  County lines changed through the years as new counties were added. this site shows county boundaris by year. (Click here)

Note - These links are NOT maintained by NYCATTAR and will open in a new window.
