The cemetery lies about 350 feet west of the center of South Road at a
point about 700 feet south of the intersection of Fenner Road and South
Road (Faulkner's Corners). This was the former Aiden Grant farm.
It sits on a small knoll at the end of a low ridge on the south side of
a wooded wet area. The top of the knoll is uneven and the cemetery
cannot occupy more than ten feet square. The stones are close together
and share the knoll with several large maple stumps. The Faulknor
stone is in sound except that the face is flaking very badly - the dates
are soon to be lost.
The two names are on a unique
double stone, the name Samuel on the left and Eleanor on the right, and
a small double footstone marked "E.L. S.L." facing it. An unmarked
field stone slab and a matching footstone are close on the right of Eleanor
and another possible field stone slab foot stone is close by this indicating
that two children are buried here also. The graves would be very
close together and the stones are oddly skewed from the foot stones.
The Faulknor stone is tipped almost flat at the very base several marks,
doodles perhaps, are carved into the stone.
Those buried in the Faulkner Cemetery include:
(The surname is presented on the stone as "Faulknor" but has been
corrected to Faulkner for computer searchability)
Faulkner, Eleanor, wife of Samuel Faulkner, died December 14,
1823, age 69 years.
Faulkner, Samuel, died March 14, 1825, age 71 years.
