This is one of the more "typical" of the country cemeteries in the study area.  It is quite large, and had been used from an early period, but ceased being used around the time of the Civil War.  The adjacent Ballou Cemetery, which is separate and lies along the southern side of the Munger Cemetery, was also used during this time (1822-1901), and it is not known why the two cemeteries operated simultaneously.
The Munger Cemetery is well maintained although the stones are in considerable disarray.  Many stones are broken and fallen and a number were found buried just under the sod.  The cemetery is mowed but the ground has not recently been leveled which is good from an archaeological standpoint as many grave pits are to be found throughout the cemetery.  I made a map of this larger country cemetery as the evidence was so intact.  The cemetery is 200 feet deep east to west and 130 feet wide north to south.  The stones are in regular straight rows 10, 12, or 15 feet apart.  The headstones are located at the west end of the grave and generally face to the west (road is to the east).  The southeast corner is slightly sloped and no evidence of graves was seen, and a strip north to south through the center also did not appear to have graves.  There are several noticeable family groupings.
At least two previous lists had been made for this cemetery; that by Clezzie Gallup in 1948, which was copied and modified by Meyer and Scott in 1960.  There were several discrepancies between these two lists and numerous errors were found when I made the field check.  All of the stones from the old list were found, but eleven additional stones were found in 1994: Merrill Holdridge, Baker Jones, Zepporah Jones, Lydia Leach, Anna Munger Sally Pratt, Cornelia Bee Stafford, Enos Wells, Polly Wells, Sophia Wells, and Benjamin Woodworth.
