The entries here are only slightly different from how they actually appear in the text.  For the sake of clarity I have extended all abbreviations, corrected the spellings of many names, standardized the format, and identified the tracts upon which the individuals lived.  Any changed words appear beside the correction in parenthesised quotes (" ").

The town of Nelson is comprised of only one tract, the first township of the "Governor's Twenty Towns" of more commonly called "Number 1 Town" "Township #1" or simply "#1" .

• The format, as presented here, translates "lot 99" in the original to "#1 Lot 099," and meaning "Township #1 Lot 99"
• The lot numbers have been formatted for computer sorting, thus Lot 18 is written as "Lot 018."  The lot numbering starts at 1 and run to 186, but there are no single digit lot numbers in this data set.
• This is far from being a complete list of all the inhabitants of the town.  There are 186 lots in the township and many of the lots have several people listed on them, but more than half the lots (n = 110; 59%) have no persons listed.
• I have not proofed the lot numbers against historic maps, and they appear as given in the original list.  For the location of the lots and names of land owners in 1875 view the 1875 Beers Atlas sheet for the Town of Nelson.
