This list is abstracted from the list of early death notices compiled by Roberta Hendrix, my predecessor as Historian for the Town of Cazenovia (she retired in 1982, I in 1989).  It is similar to the lists compiled by Meyer & Scott which also included much of Hendrix's information, but it has been found to be slightly more accurate than Meyer's compilation.  Meyer & Scott made use of several titles that Hendrix did not then have available, but I have been unable to find any additional entries that were not in Hendrix (I did not look for them systematically).
While Mrs. Hendrix's list includes every death notice (as well as marriages) that appeared in the local newspapers before 1850, I have extracted only the Cazenovia, Fenner, and Nelson deaths for my research - this includes well over half of the entries in Mrs. Hendrix's list.  Since Meyer & Scott have all of the obituaries and marriages in their publication (Abstracts from Madison County Newspapers in the Cazenovia, NY Public Library) I recommend referring to their work for other data that I might not include.
Some minor corrections of names were made so that searching was possible.  Also cross referencing of maiden names was made and they are in their appropriate place.

    Just a few notes:

Newspapers examined by Hendrix
There are actually many more issues of these papers as well as later titles that apparently were not looked at for this.  These titles, and many others, are on microfilm at the Cazenovia Public Library, principally on Reels 1 to 7.   When I made an inventory of the Cazenovia Newspaper at various repositories across Central NY and elsewhere, I found a number of issues and titles that were not examined by Hendrix or Meyer & Scott and thus there are many other obituaries that are not included here.  With the work of the New York State Newspaper Project these papers will eventually become more accessible to researchers and the job of abstracting them, too, will be possible.
