Thank you for visiting the Town of Gainesville "Roots Web" site. The
emphasis of this site is to provide data for genealogy research, especially
names with dates of life events (births, baptisms, weddings and deaths),
information that ties names together (obituaries that list other family
members or weddings listing the bride's maiden name), or just general
history that adds context to the names and dates.
The Town (or Township) of Gainesville, Wyoming County, in western New
York State.
It is bordered to the north by Warsaw,
west by Wethersfield, south by Pike and east by Castile. The Town
encompasses the villages or settlements of Gainesville (village),
Gainesville Center, Hardys, Newburgh, North Gainesville,
Silver
Springs (East Gainesville), and Rock Glen. Gainesville is about
50 miles south-west of Rochester,
50 miles south-east of Buffalo, and 80 miles north-west of Corning.
The site was created in January 2004. It is very much a
work-in-progress, with some
sections fairly full (never complete), and others just set up as page
structure yearning
for information.
