From a 1882 newspaper clipping: - JACKSON - At the residence of his son-in-law, William Marsh, Centerville, Crawford Co., Pa. Dec. 1882, Mr. Isaac Jackson, aged 81 years, 7 months, 20 days, died. Mr. Jackson was born in the town of Pompey, Onondaga County, N.Y. May 30, 1801, and came to this country in 1817, at which time much of this country was a dense forest. For several years his summer months were spent clearing land by felling trees and rolling logs, and the winter months in teaching school. In the year 1821, he purchased land of the Holland Land Company, three-fourths of a mile north of West Ellery, which was heavily timbered. By hard labor and untiring energy he succeeded, through severe trails and hardships, in clearing up and making a handsome farm, where he resided with his family until 1850, when he sold, and purchased a farm in Gerry. In the spring of 1862 he went to northern Illinois. On the 4th of July, 1881, he was seriously injured by a runaway team on the streets of Harvard, Ill. After eleven months of terrible suffering he recovered sufficiently to go to Centreville, Pa., but the journey proved too much for his frailty. Everything that loving hearts and kind hands, assisted by the best medical skill, could devise was done to relieve his suffering. But death only came to his relief. He had been an exemplary member of the M. E. church nearly sixty years, and was a kind neighbor and a friend to all. He was the father of nine children, three of whom preceded him to the "Better Land" many years ago, while six live to mourn the loss of a kind parent, namely Isaac Jackson. Mr. Jackson was buried on Dec. 28th in the cemetery of West Ellery, N.Y. the ground of which he had assisted in preparing over sixty years ago.
