JACKSON, JOSHUA and Abigail LEWIS Jackson according to the Portland Sketches he is buried in this cemetery also his wife He d. in Brocton in April [14] 1857 Mrs. J. d. in Brocton with in a week of the death of her husband. They were bu. in Brocton cemetery. Was b. in Conn. His parents’ d. in his early childhood. He m. in Conn. Abigail, dau. of Walker and Sarah LEWIS, and emigrated from Brookfield, that state. To Gerry. Now Charlotte, in this county, in June 1818, and from there removed to Portland. in Jan. 1828, occupying a log house standing upon the site of the present residence of this writer, on p’t of lot 13, T. 5. In 1830 he purchased the N. E. corner at the corners, now Brocton- five acres of land upon which was a tannery and a small dwelling. He was engaged in tanning and shoemaking for several years, with changes of residence to within a few years of his death. Mr. J. was not a religionist. He was an ardent democrat. He was an excellent citizen and universally respected.

* Florence Irene Jagoda, 84, of East Main Road, formerly of Dunkirk, died Tuesday (Sept. 16, 2003) in her home. She was born June 5, 1919, in Arkwright, the daughter of Joseph and Sophia Rosczak Kozlowski. She is survived by three sons: Peter P. Jagoda of Las Vegas, Robert Jagoda of Brocton and Antony Jagoda of Fredonia; a daughter, Patricia Ann Jagoda of Las Vegas; a brother, Joseph Kozlowski of Florida; and seven sisters: Lottie Gervas of Brant, N.Y., Josephine Bielaszka, Theresa Kawski, Dorothy Ziemba and Joanne DiBaise, all of Dunkirk, and Gertrude Majka and Victoria Stelmach, both of Fredonia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony F. Jagoda, whom she married Aug. 17, 1940, and who died Aug. 24, 2000; and a son, Joseph Jagoda.
JAGODA, Peter 1942-2005
Peter P. Jagoda, 63, a 35-year resident of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Brocton and Florida, died unexpectedly on Aug. 10 2005 at his home.
He was born in Dunkirk on June 25, 1942, the son of the late Anthony and Florence (Kozlowski) Jagoda. Jagoda had been employed by the Las Vegas school system, retiring in 2002. He had also owned and operated Pete's Magnet Shop in Las Vegas. An avid amateur radio operator, his hobbies included boating, fishing and traveling. Surviving are two brothers, Anthony Jagoda of Fredonia and Robert Jagoda of Brocton; a sister, Patricia Jagoda of Las Vegas; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Joseph, who died in 1968. Arrangements are by the Morse Funeral Home in Brocton.

A Portland resident since 1950 She is survived by two daughters: Violet Colt of Portland and Patty Churray of Portland; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Bane Sr.; and five sisters: Margaret Lindstrom of Brocton, Ruth Hayner of Fredonia, Sarah Deyell of Jamestown, Freda Tilly of Fredonia and Bertha Nolan of Fredonia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Jones, whom she married in 1944 and who died in 1989; two grandchildren: Albert Jr. and Arlene Colt; seven brothers: Kenneth Walker, Charles, Donald, William, Raymond, John and Fred Bane; and two sisters: Edna Morello and Katie Bane.

His wife’s maiden name was Brainard. He settled on p’t of lot 61, T. 4, after a few years residence in town, buying a claim of Andrew McAllister. Some years later he built the house now standing on the farm owned by Walter Buss. Mr. Jordan. was a Protestant in his religious faith, though not a professor; and in politics a democrat. He d. July 19, 1845, aged 88. Mrs. J. d. Jan. 10, 1857, aged 70.

JUDSON,. Nancy nee Dalee wife of Timothy, dau of Waterman and Anstis Dalee, who was b. in Cambridge, N. Y., June 27, 1807 d Portland, 10 March 1883
The ancestors of Mr. Judson were from Yorkshire, England, and immigrated to Concord, Mass., in 1634. In 1672 a portion of the family were members of the first colony settling in Woodbury, Conn. Noadiah and Clarinda Kirtland Judson emigrated from Woodbury to Westmoreland, Oneida County, N. Y., about 1798, where the subject of this sketch was b. Nov 2, 1801. He and his father came to P. in 1827 and purchased a claim of Lyman Doolittle to the S. E. p’t of lot 19, T. 5, and returned. In March 1828, Mr. J. came again to P. with a team and the necessary implements for farming. He purchased that year and the next p’ts of lot 18, T. 5, land now owned by F. Griswold and others. Sept 15 the same year he m. Nancy Dalee, dau, of Waterman and Anstis Dalee, who was b. in Cambridge, N. Y., June 27, 1807. They occupied a log house on lot 18 for two or three years, then building a small frame house on lot 19, which is now standing, enlarged and improved. Mr. J. was a framer, surveyor and conveyancer, and for nearly the whole period of his residence in P. shared largely and deservedly the confidence of the people. In 1839 he represented this county, with Waterman Ellsworth and Almer Lewis, in the lower branch of the state legislature. He was supervisor of the town twelve years, and at various times filled most of the offices in town in the gift of the people. He was always a faithful and efficient officer. Mr. and Mrs. J. were members of the Presbyterian church in P. In politics Mr. J. was a republican. He d. March 10, 1872, and was bu. in Brocton Cemetery. Mrs. J. is still living in Fredonia, with her dau. Mrs. L. L. Riggs. NOTE: Nancy Dalee Judson died in Fredonia on 10 March 1883.

KANE, PETER Soldier of the Revolution
Died January 7th, 1818. Grave in Evergreen Cemetery, town of Portland, Chautauqua County, N. Y. According to the "Historical Sketches of the Town of Portland," by Dr. Taylor, he was a Revolutionary soldier and also participated in the war of 1812. Came to Portland in 1804 from some place in the Mohawk Valley, settled on part of lot 30, Portland township, and kept a tavern for two years. He was a justice of the peace in 1805 and in 1806 purchased of James Dunn a farm upon which he built a log house where he resided until his death in 1818. After his death his wife went to live with her daughter, Clara, in Erie, Pa., where she died a few years later. Their children were: Polly, Clara, Phillip, Ann.
** Peter CAIN (THOMAS)1 was born 1761 in Poss. Mohawk town, Montgomery Co. NY, and died January 07, 1818 in Portland, Chautauqua Co. NY. He married ANNA MAGDALENA SERVISS Bef. 1786, daughter of CHRISTOPHER SERVOS and ANNA CRIEF. She died Aft. 1818 in poss. Erie, Erie Co. PA.

"Wife Ann, dau. Anne Kane, dau Clarissa Cogle,(Cowgill), dau Mary Harris, son Philip, grandson Jefferson Lane;

The following is an excerpt from a Letter of Administration dated 31 Aug 1798 at Newark (Niagara on the Lake Ontario). "Peter Cain, the petitioner, married to the daughter of the late Christopher Servos who during the late American War was killed in his Majesties service and died without a will. Christopher Servos, father in law of the Petitioner (Peter Cain) died in 1778. This Peter Cain was made the administrator etc. Signatures to the document were Peter Caine, John Bradt, Peter Bradt, Robert Kerr and Allan McNabb. The document was signed in Lincoln County, Ontario

"Sudden Death--- Mr. Phillip Kane; father in law of S.F.Searls, of Littleton, in whose family he was living, while sitting at the dinner table last Wednesday (?), suddenly fell back in his chair and expired. Mr. Kane had been walking upon the street only a few minutes before, apparently as well as ever. He was 86 years old."

* Liselotte Achhammer Kelley, 72, of Dunkirk died Sunday (May 23, 2004) after a short illness. She was born Nov. 12, 1931, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the daughter of the late Alois and Emma Eiter Achhammer.
She was raised in Munich, Germany. In 1952, she came to the United States to visit her pen pal, the late Frances Gostomski of Dunkirk. She began working at the local M&T Bank, where she met her husband, the late Fred E. Kelley, formerly of Brocton. They married in 1955 and, after living in Buffalo a short time, settled in Dunkirk. In 1959, she was granted her United States citizenship, giving up both her Argentinian and German citizenships. She is survived by two sons, F. Douglas Kelley of Webster and Michael A. Kelley of Fredonia; three daughters: E. Heidi Alati of Honeoye Falls, Lisa Lyn Kelley of Highland, Mich., and Christa E. Kelley of Dunkirk; 10 grandchildren and a sister, Rosemarie Theimer of Freilassing, Germany.

KOZLOWSKI, Joyce nee FURMAN, Joyce L. Kozlowski, 69, of West Avenue, formerly of Dunkirk, died Wednesday (March 21, 2001). She was born in Brocton, the daughter of the late Adelbert and Angeline Masdeo Furman. A Brocton resident most of her life, she had been employed by Chautauqua Opportunities as a health care aid, the Westfield Day Care, helped with the Brocton Portland Youth Center, and worked as an election inspector for many years in the Brocton Portland area. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church of Brocton and the Brocton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Thomas E. Kozlowski, whom she married July 29, 1950; two sons: David T. ‘‘Koz’’ Kozlowski of Portland and Michael A. ‘‘Koz’’ Kozlowski of Fredonia; a daughter, Sandra B. Miller of Brocton; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; and two brothers: Donald Furman of Dunkirk and Richard Furman of Brocton. Interment will be in the Portland Evergreen Cemetery.
