AKERS, AUGUSTA (SMITH)
My great grandmother, Augusta (Smith) Akers at about age 16.  She was born August 13 1866 in Chautauqua, NY, to Edgar Smith and Harriet (Foster) Smith, and married William John Akers December 31, 1881.  They moved to Seattle in Washington State in 1889, where they lived until their deaths, and most of their descendants still live there. - Source:  Marilyn King

Dr. Benedict md. Dec. 4, 1826. Sarah "Sally" Ann Copp. Dr. Benedict studied medicine under Dr. Samuel Porter of Shaneatelas and received his diploma in the spring of 1826, when he settled in Ellery, where he had a large professional business until 1850. In 1851 he moved to Dunkirk. He was supervisor of Ellery 18 years and elected to the assembly in the fall of 1839 and again in 1842. BLOOD, AUGUSTUS
A lifelong resident of Portland, Chautauqua Co, NY, was born in 1843 in Stockholm Sweden, and emigrated with his parents to this country when he was about 4 years old. When a small boy, he was adopted by Asa BLOOD of Portland, and through his natural ability acquired a superior education for those times. Early in life he became a teacher, and taught in Portland and for a short time in Illinois, During his sojurn in Illinois, he was united in marriage with Miss Hattie LaDUE, the dau of U.S. LaDUE of Portland NY. In 1862 he enlisted in Co G of the 112th NY and served his country until he was mustered out in 1865. Returning to the village of Brocton, he was associated in business with U. S. LaDUE, in buying cattle and livestock. He afterward went into the mercantile business and while pursuing this occupation, was appointed postmaster.. In 1891 he was elected Supervisor of the town of Portland. The last 15 years of his life were quiet because of physical infirmity, He departed this life, January 26th, 1926 at his residence in the village of Brocton. Sarah Jane COBB, born Fentonville, Chautauqua Co NY April 26, 1835 died in Vancouver WA at sons house March, 26,1921 she was the daughter of Joseph COBB (1804-1860) and his 1st wife, Tabitha LESHER (ca 1804-1844). Sarah Jane, is buried at Colona Cemetery, Colona, Ouray Co. Colorado next to her husband, whom she married March 1, 1853 in Fentonville, Chautauqua Co NY.
Roswell Andrew HOTCHKISS b November 21, 1829 Prattsburg, Steuben Co., NY. died in Ridgeway, Ouray Co Colorado, May 12, 1907 a town settled first by Roswell and his brothers, Enos T. and Preston Hotchkiss, The towns of Lake City and Hotchkiss CO are also named for his brother Enos Throup Hotchkiss, founder of the Golden Fleece mine at Lake City CO.

FESSENDEN, RALPH CUSHMAN
This is a photo of Ralph Cushman Fessenden (1851-1917), my great-great grandfather. His grandfather, Reuben Fessenden (1786-1866), came from Vermont in 1816 and settled on a farm in Gerry. His descendants lived on the family farm until 1920. Ralph is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Sinclairville.

Carrie Kimbel Hooker (R) and her mother Ellen Lake Kimbel (L) taken in Dec. 1885. Ellen was wife of Horace Kimbel. Their son (Carrie's brother), Charles, was the father of my great grandmother, Ellen Kimbel Fessenden. The family lived in Charlotte Center.

KIMBEL HOMESTEAD
This is the old Kimbel homestead in Charlotte Center, date unknown. My Great  Grandmother, Ellen Mahala Kimbel Fessenden (1887-1981), grew up in this  house. Her father, Charles E. Kimbel, died the same year she was born. He  was only 24. I know very little about Ellen's family. I know her mother,  Ella J. Dibble (1862-1915) never remarried so Great Grandma was an only  child.  When Great Grandma & Grandpa Fessenden married, they moved to Mount  Morris, New York to be near the TB hospital Ella was in and where she  eventually died. The 2 women on the porch could very well be Ella Dibble  Kimbel and daughter, Ellen Kimbel Fessenden.

Elnor is my great great aunt. Born April 6, 1847 in Busti NY, died March 25, 1869 in Busti. Buried in Lot 41 Busti Village Cemetery, Busti Chautauqua Co NY She is the daughter of Albert and Mary Jane Andrews Mattison.

Enos Pascal Fuller is my great-great grandfather. Born Feb 5, 1810 in
Moretown VT , married Nov 1, 1846 to Sarah Bliss Rogers, died Dec 19, 1882
in Ceredo, Wayne Co WV and is buried there.

Sarah Bliss Rogers Fuller is my great-great grandmother. She was born Dec 7, 1826 in Springfield MA, died Oct 17, 1874. Daughter of Gurdon Rogers Jr. and Sarah Smith Rogers.

Flora Lorinda White Fuller, born Aug 15, 1854 in Sardinia NY, died May 27, 1936 in Kennedy, Chautauqua Co NY She was the daughter of Albert Thomas White and Jane C. Thompson White.

FULLER, FREDERICK MORTIMER
Frederick Mortimer Fuller, born Dec 15, 1858 in Maysville KY, died Oct 20, 1940 in Kennedy, Chautauqua Co NY He was the son of Enos Pascal Fuller and Sarah Bliss Rogers Fuller. He married Flora Feb 11, 1892 in Garland, Warren Co PA They both are buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery, Garland PA.

They are the great grandparents of Bonnie Sandeen Kidder. They lived in Bemus Point NY and Kennedy NY. He was a barber

HARVEY, CHARLES RUFUS
CHARLES RUFUS HARVEY (Rufus,6 Jonathan,5 William,4 Thomas,3 William,2 Thomas1). Born at Wardsboro, Vt., 19 Jan., 1799, he was only eight years old when his father, his surviving parent, died. About 1821 he settled in Jamestown, Chautauqua county, N. Y., where he lived until 1835 or '6, when he removed to Pokeepsie, N. Y. During his residence in these towns he was engaged with his brother Thomas William in iron industries, the building of machinery, etc. In 1843 he removed to Somerville, N. J., where he was connected with a screw manufacturing Co. His death occurred at his home in New York city 14 Sept., 1878 During his residence in Jamestown and Pokeepsie Charles Rufus Harvey was connected with the New York State militia, and attained the rank of Colonel. Charles R. Harvey was a man of heavy build, stout and muscular. He became bald in middle life, and thereafter wore a wig. His eyes were brown Charles Rufus Harvey was married (1st) at Wardsboro, Vt., 1 Jan., 1821, to Olive Willard (b. 3 March, 1800), younger sister of his brother-in-law Oliver Willard, Jr.; she being the eighth child of Oliver and Asenath (Newell) Willard. [See page 112 ante.] Olive died at Jamestown, N. Y., 5 April 1829.

Charles Rufus Harvey was married (2d) at Jamestown, N. Y., 12 Oct., 1829, to Rebecca Hayward (b. Pomfret, Conn., 15 Aug., 1801), youngest child of Charles Hayward (b. Jamestown, N. Y., 2 Jan., 1766; d. there 2 Sept., 1846) and his wife Rebecca Coates (b. (???); md. 18 Dec., 1788; d. Pomfret, Conn., 1 March, 1829). Charles Hayward was the son of Caleb and Polly (Morton) Hayward. Several children from his marriages were in Chautauqua Co history; and his brother, Thomas W Harvey (see Bio at

HASKIN(S), CHARLES T.

CHARLES T. HASKIN(S) has been identified with the agricultural and lumber interests of Clark County since 1871. He is a native of Chautauqua County, New York, born February 21, 1841, and is a son of William and Aurilla (Vosburgh) Haskin, also natives of the Empire State. The parents emigrated to Wisconsin in 1847, and settled in Waudesha County, at the town of Wukesha, where they resided until 1857 thence they removed to Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, where the father passed the remainder of his days the mother is still living, at the age of seventy-six years. He was a carpenter by trade, but in the later years of his life devoted his time to farming. The family consisted of five children: Horace, Elizabeth, William E.,

Charles T. and Frank H. Charles T., the subject of this notice, was a young child when his parents brought him to the wilds of the frontier, and there he grew to manhood, surrounded by all the vicissitudes and privations of pioneer life. He received his first lessons in the primitive log schoolhouse, and during the vacations assisted his father in the work at home. When he was sixteen years old he went with his parents to Fond du Lac County, and there he began farming on his own account. He remained there until 1871, and then came to Clark County, and purchased eighty acres of timber land which he has since made his home. As his means would admit he has invested in land until he now owns 280 acres, situated on sections 11 and 12, Beaver Township and section 34, Green Grove Township. Fifty acres of this land have been converted from the wild state in which nature left them, to one of advanced cultivation. To accomplish this has been an undertaking of no small magnitude. It should be remembered, too, that Mr. Haskin has been unaided by any financial assistance in his business, and that all his success is due to his own merit.

In 1864, December 15, this worthy gentleman was united in marriage to Miss Mary R. Woodworth, of Fond du Lac County. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, October 17, 1846, and is a daughter of Harvey and Emaline (Brush) Woodworth, natives of the State of New York. They removed to Wisconsin in 1844, and located in Milwaukee thence they went to Fond du Lac County, and about the year 1874 they moved to Nebraska, where they are now making their home.

Mr. and Mrs. Haskin have had born to them five children: Laura, deceased Rosa, William, John and Charles T.

LOOMIS, ABNER

President of the Poudre Valley Bank of Fort Collins, is one of the pioneers of Colorado who have achieved financial success through attention to business and determination of will. He was born in Chautauqua County, N. Y., December 17, 1829, and was next to the youngest among twelve children, all but one of whom attained maturity and eight are still living. His father, William, a native of York state and a member of an old eastern family, settled in Ohio in 1834 and from there in 1840 went to Iowa, locating near Fairfield, Jefferson County, where he engaged in farming until his death at sixty-six years. His wife, who was Sylvia  MORTON, was born in New York and died in Birmingham, Iowa.

MALLORY, PHEOBE ADELAIDE (Addie)

MALLORY, ALLEN

My great great great great grandparents are buried in the Westfield Cemetery - Isaac and Amy Briggs Mallory. Isaac Mallory attended the first town meeting of Westfield in 1829 and was elected "fenceviewer". The 1830 census records show that Isaac Mallory was present in Portland and the later census records for Federal and State show him to be a resident of Westfield until he died in 1867. Isaac and Amy had 8 children, most of whom left Westfield and settled in various places in the West. Their oldest daughter, Anna Mallory married Lorenzo Bliss and they are both buried in the Westfield cemetery. Their son Emmett stayed in Chautauqua County, married Caroline Walker, then Jane Scofield and is buried in the Scofield plot in the Mayville cemetery. Their daughter Esther Mallory married Dr. Charles Gillis and both are buried in the Westfield cemetery. Also daughter Finette Mallory who married Albert Manley, is buried next to her parents. Their son, Allen Mallory, who with Emmett was a one time proprietor of the Glen Mills, is my direct ancestor. His daughter, Phoebe Adelaide Mallory, was born in Westfield. Her mother, Harriet Chapin Mallory, died at age 32 and is buried in the Westfield cemetery next to Isaac and Amy Mallory. Both Allen Mallory and daughter Addie Mallory Curtis are buried in Bentonville, Arkansas.

Albert Mattison is another great-great grandfather. He was born April 24, 1819 in Busti, Chautauqua Co NY, the son of Henderick Dow and Hannah Merry Mattison. He married Mary Jane Andrews Oct 25, 1840. He died June 12, 1892 in Busti. He is buried in Lot 41 Busti Village Cemetery.

Mary Jane Andrews is another great-great grandmother. She was born Jan 19, 1821 in Busti, Chautauqua Co NY , the daughter of Asahel and Lucy Ann Merry Andrews. She died Aug 18, 1863. She is buried in Lot 41 Busti Village Cemetery, Busti, Chautauqua Co NY.

MATTISON, THOMAS PATRICK
Thomas Patrick Mattison was born in Cherry Grove, Warren Co PA, March 17, 1886. He moved to Bemus Point, Chautauqua Co NY in 1908, where he worked at the Skillman and Ingerson Store ( It is the Skillman Store in July of 2001).
From 1916-1922, Tom Mattison was post master of Bemus Point, NY Post Office. Ben Haskin and Tom bought the Sullivan- Barrett Store, in Bemus Point, in 1922. They bought the Danielson Funeral Home and grocery business in Kennedy, Chautauqua Co NY in 1925. Tom lived the rest of his life over this business, and when he died, January 29, 1975, it was called the Mattison Funeral Home, Kennedy, NY, then owned by his son Frederick E. Mattison. Tom is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer, Chautauqua Co NY He was active in many community organizations.

Tom met his wife, Ruth Kathleen Fuller, in Bemus Point, NY. They married in a United Brethren Church, Buffalo, Erie Co NY, May 24, 1912. Tom and Ruth had seven children, six were born in Bemus Point, NY and one in Kennedy, NY.

MATTISON, RUTH KATHLEEN FULLER
Ruth Kathleen Fuller Mattison, was born in Youngsville, Warren Co PA, December 10, 1893. Her family moved to Bemus Point, Chautauqua Co NY in 1908. Before Ruth married she worked at the Lenhart Hotel in Bemus Point, NY. She died October 15, 1988, at Heritage Village Health Care Center, Gerry, Chautauqua Co NY. She is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer, Chautauqua Co NY For many years Ruth was active in organizations in the community.
Tom and Ruth Fuller Mattison are Bonnie Sandeen Kidder's maternal grandparents.
