Generation No. 1
1. MILTON1
SMITH (CALVINA, EBENEZERB)1,2,3 was born May 20, 1810 in
Stockton, Chautauqua, NY, and died September 05, 1888 in
Stockton, Chautauqua, NY. He married JANE CLARISSA
WOODWARD4 March 06, 1833 in Jamestown, NY, daughter of SAMUEL
WOODWARD and ANNA LIVINGSTON. She was born January 16, 1816
in Ticonderoga, Essex Co., NY5, and died May 10, 1891 in Lawton,
Michigan.
Notes for MILTON
SMITH:
Milton was a member
of the first Board of Education 1860/67. In 1854 he was
elected Sheriff and became a lifelong resident of Mayville.
He was a supervisor of the Town of Stockton 1848-53.
Obituary
reads: The death of Milton Smith of Mayville was announced
on Thursday evening, filling with sadness the hearts of his many
friends and relatives in this his early and long time
residence. Stockton has but few, if any, citizens who
formed a more general acquaintance than the departed. His
public positions as county and town officer were entirely
creditable. Naturally generous and outpsoken in his ideas
of human responsibilities his life was devoted to the best
interests of his fellow men. The funeral service at his
former home on Saturday was well attended by the family relatives
from Jamestown and Stockton, and his remains rest beside his
parents in the Stockton cemetery.

FOWLER MAXFIELD:
Member of I.O.O.F
and rose to high levels in this association. His title was
Brigadier General, Departmental Commander of Washington.
Patriarch's militia. He was the top man in the state for 12
years. Herbert was an electrician. He and his
son Cyrus, built the family home at 6438 Marshall Ave. in West
Seattle. It was next door to the home built in 1910-1913 by
his father, Cyrus Estes. Both homes still exist, and the
older home has been restored to a beautiful condition. The
entire back yard of Herbert's house was his garden, which he
lovingly tended and provided abundant produce for the family
every year. He also grew several different kinds of berries
for jams and pies, as well as fruit trees. In the summers,
they took all their grandchildren camping at Twanoh State Park on
Hood Canal, leaving wonderful memories of good times for all of
us. Herbert fell while attempting to sit on a low stool at
a convention in Seattle, in the winter 1961 and broke his
hip. He recovered poorly, and at breakfast one morning, in
June, that same year, he died, at the age of 78.
