Once
Upon A Time
by Marion Thomas
edited and published byBorn July 22, 1888 in Silver Creek, New York, Miss Thomas has resided
most of her life in the Ward-Thomas homestead on Main Street. She attended
the Silver Creek Union Academy and Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
During her professional years she taught English in the Dunkirk High School
and was historian of the Town of Hanover for twenty-four years. The author
now makes her home in Chautauqua, New York where she continues her many
interests.
Miss Thomas has combined her literary talent and interest to record local
history and tradition with an acute sense of humor, and has made the ordinary
come alive with her sprightly anecdotes. This collection traces the many
people and events that have shaped the character and personality of our
town today.
The uniqueness of style of the original articles has been retained, although
edited to reduce repetition. There has been no attempt to update these
writings from their original publication dates. The pen and ink sketches
are the original work of Mrs. Franklyn Richardson and Mr. William Harford.
It is the hope of the Fortnightly Club that this publication will provide
the reader with a perspective of our history and may inspire pride in the
future of our town.
