Martha had to fight for her small pension; it took several years;
Widow's Declaration for Pension or Increase of Pension
State of New York, County of Chautauqua. On this 12th day of July, 1890,
personally appeared before me a Notary Public within and for the county
and state aforesaid, Martha Riley, aged 51 years, who, being duly sworn
according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain the
Pension provided by Acts of Congress granting pension to widows: That she
is the widow of Redmond Riley, who enlisted under the name of Redmond
Riley at Westfield, on the 25th of May, 1861, in Co. D., 3rd Regiment,
Excelsior, NY Volunteers, in the war of the Rebellion, who died at
Brocton NY on the 27th of November, 1877, who held the rank of private.

was born 11 Oct 1839 in Winterswijk, Netherlands, son of Gerrit Jan Rospas
and Johanna Koks. He came to the United States in 1845 with his parents and
siblings. He enlisted as a private with the 112th NYS Infantry on 1 Sep
1862. He was killed in battle at Fort Fisher, North Carolina, on 10 Jan
1865 and is buried at Fort Fisher. He was engaged to marry Anna Gesiena
Esselink whose brother, John Esselink, was also fatally wounded at Fort
Fisher.
BROTHER
Gerrit Jan Rospas, may be listed as John Raspas or Raspus, was born 7 May
1842 in Winterswijk, Netherlands, son of Gerrit Jan Rospas and Johanna Koks.
He came to the United States in 1845 with his parents and siblings. He
served with Co.G, 15th NY Vols. He married, date not known. with Willemina
(Amelia here) Damkot, b. 1851 or 1852. They lived in Clymer and were the
parents of William, b.1870; Sarah J., b.21 Jul 1873; Henry, b.24 Jul 1876;
and Nell, b.1883. Gerrit Jan died 1 Apr 1916, Willemina/Amelia in 1938;
both are buried in Clymer Center Cemetery, Clymer.
