*John A. Slotboom, originally Jan Albert Slotboom, was born 22 May 1841 in
Winterswijk, Gelderland, Netherlands, son of Gerrit Jan Slotboom and Gesiena
Hoitink. He came to the U.S. in 1846 with his parents, siblings, and
grandmother. After spending the winter in Albany, NY, the family came to
Clymer in 1847. He was wounded in the arm at Cold Harbor, Virginia, while
serving as a private with Co. D. 112th NY Infantry Regiment. On 13 January
1866 in Clymer, he married Magdalena Kooman, born 16 October 1842 in
Kruiningen, Zeeland, Netherlands, daughter of Pieter Kooman and Paulina
Feijtel . John and Magdalena were the parent of Sara Willemina, b.12 May
1867; William Leonard, b.11 January 1869, Ada Paulina, b.23 January 1871;
Martin Pieter who died as an infant; and Lijdia Louisa (Lulu), b. 12 April
1880, all born in Clymer. In a list of important businessmen in Clymer in
1867, John was listed as a dealer in dry goods, groceries, crockery, hats,
caps, boots, etc. He and his son were still in the general store business
in 1896. John served as town supervisor of Clymer from 1883 to1889. Around
1918 John and Magdalena and all of their surviving children except Sara
moved to Portland, Oregon. Sara married Abraham Beckerink and lived in
Jamestown, NY. * data from Historian Thelma Heil *theil@alltel.net

* John W. Slotboom, originally Jan Willem Slotboom, was born 2 June 1821 in
Winterswijk, Netherlands, son of Berend Willem Slotboom and Christina
Besschers. On 11 February 1846 in Winterswijk he married Hanna Honderslo,
born 2 December 1824 in Winterswijk, daughter of Berend Honderslo and
Christina Westerveld. John and Hanna left Winterswijk to come to Clymer at
some time between 1851 and 1861. I have no further record of Hanna and have
not found a gravesite for her. While serving with Co.D, 112th NY Infantry
Regiment he was sick from June until September of 1863 and was again sick
in May of 1964 when at David Island, New York Harbor At some time after
1860, John married Aleida/Lydia Koskamp, born 5 October 1808 in Dinxperlo,
Gelderland, Netherlands. She was the widow of Gerrit Jan Meinen/Mina. She
died after 1880 and I have not found a gravesite for her or her first
husband either. John died 2 August 1871 in Clymer and is buried in Clymer
Hill Cemetery. It appears that John. had no children.
Have not yet found any family connection between John A. and John W.
